Longtime and legendary Carmel cross country and boys track coach Chuck Koeppen has agreed to blog about the boys track season for IHSAASports.org.

Koeppen is in his 40th year of high school coaching with an unparalleled record 21 total State Championships.  Under Koeppen, the Carmel boys cross country teams have racked up 10 State Titles and nine State runner-up finishes, his girls cross country squads have won 10 State Titles and are seven-time State runners-up, and his Carmel boys track team won the 2000 Team State Championship.  In addition, he has coached multiple individual State Champions and Mental Attitude Award winners.

Koeppen has been honored for his successes in both track and cross country, being named the 1982 National Cross Country Coach of the Year and the 2000 National Track Coach of the Year.

Coach Koeppen is a member of the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches’ Hall of Fame

Koeppen attended Valparaiso High School and Ball State University, and has been inducted in both institutions’ Athletic Hall of Fame.

First of all, I would like to thank IHSAASports.org for asking me to write a weekly blog about what is going on with Boys Track in the state of Indiana.  I am certainly honored to have been asked to do so.  This is currently my 40th year as a coach (my 36th at Carmel H.S.).  Secondly, please try to realize that I can only report on what I know, experience first hand, or what I have read about in the newspapers or seen on websites.
