House Republicans vow to "get more vocal:" next week to try to force a vote on a constitutional amendment capping property taxes.
Minority Leader Brian Bosma says he hopes to see the public demand action on property taxes the way people did a year ago. That pressure led to the law capping taxes at one-percent of your home's value, but it takes a second vote this year or next to put the caps on the ballot as a possible amendment to the constitution.
"I believe if the tax caps hit the floor, they'd have overwhelming support," Bosma maintains. "Speaker (Patrick Bauer) has made it clear he does not want to move them this year."
The Senate hasn't scheduled a hearing on the caps either, but the GOP majority has promised a vote, while Bauer has said he wants to wait till at least next year, when there's more data available.
Bosma complains the House has now been in session for three weeks and has yet to pass a single bill. He declares if the GOP had reclaimed the majority, the tax caps would have passed by now.
