7th Congressional District Republicans selected former City County Councilor Ron Franklin as the candidate to opposed Julia Carson, during a slating meeting Saturday.
Franklin ran into trouble in August, 2001, when he pleaded guilty to charges of firing a handgun at a truck carrying several people.
He was found not guilty of possessing cocaine found in his car.
Franklin says he'll work for better education, living wage jobs, affordable housing, and ending homelessness.
He defeated two other candidates.
Auto dealer Eric Dickerson is expected to enter the May primary against Franklin.
