If perception is reality, how is Indianapolis perceived by its residents? Professor Sotiris Avgoustis conducted the annual survey for the IUPUI Department of Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management.
Avgoustis says the results are very positive with residents viewing the city, as a growing tourist attraction that is healthy and clean.
When it comes to safety and security, however, the results were negative. Residents don't feel the city is safe, especially downtown day or night. Avgoustis says the negative perception has continued to grow over the last 3 years. He says with the perception of safety an issue among residents, Indianapolis could suffer in reality if steps aren't taken to reverse the image
