Public Health Conference Focuses on Results of Climate Change
By Amber Stearns

There is a connection between climate change and public health. That's the focus of the first National Public Health Week Conference in Indiana.

IUPUI public health professor Stephen Jay says the theme, "Climate Change: our Health in Balance" seeks to raise awareness of the public health issues that are associated with climate change.

Jay says the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina with flood waters, the spread of infectious diseases, and even mental health illustrated issues that occur around the world.

Various public health professionals, government officials, students and environmental groups are attending the conference.

Dr. Jay says the goal of the conference is to raise awareness of the link between climate change and public health, call people to change, and influencing policymakers to consider action.
