State Launches Effort to Get Help Stop Foreclosures

The state is launching its biggest effort yet to get mortgage lenders and mortgage holders to sit down together to avoid foreclosure.

Ivy Tech campuses in Lawrence, Evansville and South Bend will host workshops Saturday, with loan counselors and representatives of 10 lenders on hand to negotiate refinancings or other steps to save people from losing their homes.

About 300 borrowers attended a similar event during Indiana Black Expo earlier this month. Other gatherings took place this spring in Indianapolis and Gary.
