A Simple Word Problem

John is a state lawmaker who has to decide whether to vote for a school voucher program.  The average cost of educating a kid in a traditional public school is $6,000 annually.  Sending a kid to a private school with a voucher will only cost the state $4,000 per child.  There are 20,000 students eligible for the voucher program.  Using those facts, answer the following questions…

  1. How much would it cost to send the 20,000 students to traditional public school?

  2. How much would it costs to send the 20,000 students to private school using a voucher?

  3. Which is the better deal for the state and students?
