Gun Guy: 1700 Guns Were Stolen in Marion County in 2017 - and It's Our Fault
On Saturday's The Gun Guy Show, IMPD Chief of Police Bryan Roach and I discussed ways to reduce the number of guns stolen in Marion County - after an astounding 1700 guns were stolen in Indianapolis last year.
A large percentage of stolen guns are obtained by thieves breaking into vehicles. As responsible gun owners, we should avoid leaving a gun in our vehicles, but if we must leave a gun in our car or truck, we should lock it up. A wide assortment of safes are available for our vehicles, like the console safe that I have in my GMC pickup truck. Safes are also available for long guns that fit under the the rear seat of a vehicle or in the back of a SUV.
In our homes, we can balance accessibility with security. Modern safes can be opened with a fingerprint or a quck-access code to allow us to defend ourselves and our homes if necessary, but still prevent the theft of a gun by a burglar or intruder.
Hear my whole conversation with Chief Roach here - and together, let's do a better job of keeping our guns out of the hands of criminals:
