The Top 10 Movies of 2017

Producer Ari here. I've been posting weekly movie reviews for a few months now. Since the year is coming to an end, it felt fitting to make a list of the best 2017 had to offer in movies. 2017 was actually a decent year for movies. Sure we had a lot of crap, but there were some real gems in there too. I’ll be going over my top 10 right here, right now.

10. Kong: Skull Island

This movie is tough as hell. It’s two hours of a giant gorilla fighting people and monsters. Didn’t get as much positive hype as it should have, but if you are looking for a movie to get the blood pumping then I strongly recommend it.

9. Get Out

This movie came out of nowhere, but it’s definitely worth a watch. It’s kind of a mixture of horror, comedy and suspense. It’ll have you wondering “what the hell is going on” for most of it, but by the end you’ll be on the edge of your seat.

8. John Wick: Chapter 2

If you’ve never seen John Wick then you’re a damn fool. Seriously, it has some of the greatest fight scenes in cinema history. Keanu Reeves is a baaaad man in the movie. He basically is this deadly hit-man who goes on a killing spree. If you don't like gratuitous violence then stay away.

7. IT

I wrote a review for this movie when it came out. Yea, it’s spooky as hell, but it also has a lot of heart and humor. You find yourself laughing at the jokes, but also cautiously aware that a murderous clown is lurking nearby.

6. Logan

This is another superhero movie that I really loved. Logan follows Wolverine from the X-Men movies. He’s a drunk old man now, but he’s still a cold-blooded killer. He drops a lot of f-bombs and chops a lot of bad guy’s heads off. A fitting finale to the Wolverine saga.

5. Baby Driver

This is a movie any hipster would love. The movie's soundtrack is incredible. You'll be jamming the whole time. It’s about this crew of bank robbers, but it has a ton of humor and wild car chase scenes. Kevin Spacy, before everyone knew he was a sexual predator, is in it, but it’s still a really good movie.

4. War for the Planet of the Apes

The third movie in the Planet of the Apes series, this movie is the crown jewel of them all. The special effects are unreal. I have no idea how they make actors look like real monkeys, but I was convinced at one point they trained monkeys to actually act and fight. A little too long, but very cool for sure.

3. Hidden Figures

I know what you’re thinking. Yes, this movie is TOTALLY different from everything else on my list so far, but I can’t lie… I loved this movie. My mom and girlfriend got me to watch it and I was entertained. It’s about these 3 African American woman who work at NASA in the 1960s. It sounds boring as hell, but it's very captivating. I kept trying to find a way to keep it off my list, but truthfully it belongs on here. And in the top 3. (technically this movie came out on December 26th 2016, but I'm still including it becuase I didn't see it until 2017. Any complaints can be sent to my spam)

2. Spiderman: Homecoming

I love Spiderman. They haven’t made a good movie for him in about a decade, but those days are over. Tom Holland is the perfect Peter Parker and Spiderman. The action sequences are great and the characters are lovable. Superhero movie fan or not, it’s fantastic.

1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Did you really think I was going to do this list and not include The Last Jedi? What can I say? This is the best Star Wars movie in the last 30 years and has everything you want in a movie. Action, suspense, humor and lightsabers. Easy pick for my number 1.
