Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and his business associate Richard Gates were indicted by a federal grand jury on 12 counts.
The charges include funneling millions of dollars through overseas shell companies and using the money to buy luxury cars, real estate, antiques and expensive suits.
The indictment of Manafort and Gates doesn't mention Trump or election meddling. Instead, it describes in detail Manafort’s lobbying work in Ukraine and what prosecutors said was a scheme to hide that money from tax collectors and the public. The authorities said Manafort laundered more than $18 million.
What may be a bigger story is the situation with former Trump campaigh policy advisor, George Papadopoulos. Papadopoulos has pleaded guilty to making false statements to federal agents about contacts with foreign nationals. He was arrested in July and is said to be cooperating with the FBI.
