Dual Anniversary

You probably know by now that this year marks the 100th Indianapolis 500, an incredible milestone for what I consider the greatest sporting event in the world.

I will discuss this important anniversary more at length here as we close in on the 100th 500, but you may not know there is also another important milestone in 2016, as Team Penske celebrates their 50th anniversary.

Walking through the special Team Penske exhibit at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum stirs many memories, and reminds us just how important Roger Penske has been to the Greatest Spectacle In Racing.

When I think of Team Penske’s incredible record in the Indianapolis 500, one stat immediately comes to mind. Penske has won the World’s Greatest Race with 11 different drivers... 11!!!!

Only 69 drivers in the 105-year history of the event have won the race, and 11 of them have done it for the Ohio native.

To me, that’s an incredible statistic, and don’t be surprised this year if Will Power (who finished 2nd last year),  or Simon Pagenaud (who led 35 laps in 2015) makes it 12 this year.
