Air Force Error Allowed Texas Church Shooter Devin Patrick Kelley to Purchase Firearms

Hope Seck, military.com: "You can really lay the blame at the foot of the military."

A mistake by the U.S. Air Force may have allowed Devin Patrick Kelley, 26 to purchase the weapons he used inside a church in the small town of Sutherland Springs, Texas, Sunday, killing at least 26 people and injuring 20.

According to authorities, Kelley bought at least two guns after passing background checks, despite receiving a bad conduct discharge from the U.S. Air Force, which should have prevented him from making firearm purchases.

The Air Force admitted Monday that its Office of Special Investigations apparently failed to report Kelley's name to the National Criminal Information Center after he pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic violence in 2013.

Hope Seck, contributor to military.com told WIBC host Tony Katz the Air Force could be considered partially to blame for Sunday's tragedy.

Seck:

This is a bad conduct discharge, which means it has a criminal charge on the backend.

The bottom line is that this individual was not supposed to be able to buy weapons and body armor.

And people are rightly asking the question, 'If this had been reported, if he had been barred from buying weapons, would this have happened?'

You can really lay this at the foot of the airforce here, the foot of the military.
