Trump Actions on Debt Limit: Mad or Mad Genius?

President Trump aligned himself with Democrats on Wednesday and angered Republicans when he cut a deal with Democratic congressional leaders on a short-term plan to fund the government and raise its borrowing limit for the next three months.

This is the latest turn in Trump’s growing separation from his party amid what has been a year of gridlock and missed opportunities for Republicans on Capitol Hill. 

Is Trump just fed up and aligning himself with 'the winners' or is there a greater strategy at play.
