The Trump administration announced new travel restrictions Sunday as a replacement to a the previous travel ban signed earlier this year.

The new restrictions are to go into effect October 18 and cover citizens of Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen, and Venezuela.

Critics, however, believe Venezuela and North Korea were added to provide legal and political cover for what they say remains a "Muslim ban."

WIBC host Tony Katz spoke with William Jacobson of Legal Insurrection Tuesday to get a better understanding of the latest restrictions and the potential legal hurdles the administration will face.

Jacobson:

What people forget are that the previous travel orders were temporary measures. They were just supposed to put a pause on things while the security situation could be reevaluated and new guidelines implemented. But of course, that was stymied by the lower Federal courts.

For a long time, because of Federal injunctions, the Trump administration could not even conduct a review to replace the travel order. Once a Federal judge lifted the injunction, the administration was finally able to then begin the review process.

So the previous guidelines expired on Sunday and Sunday night the Trump administration issued new guidelines.
