In speaking with Sanders, Tony noted that - unlike her predecessor - Ms. Sanders has handled her position by being assertive without coming across as angry, which prompted Tony to ask whether she sees her job as confrontational or educational.
I think you have moments of confrontation, but my ultimate goal is to go out and promote the President's message and his agenda, and that's what I try to do every day. And if every once in a while that gets a little more tense than others, you have to fight through that, but at the same time my goal doesn't change and it remains the same each day that we step out and step into the job.
Sanders also expressed her frustration that the press does not acknowledge publicly when the media has a story wrong.
They like to do that behind closed doors, and I always urge them to do that publicly. ...I understand that they have a job to do, but at the same time, I wish that they would [acknowledge when they're wrong] in the public space [more], but for now, we'll take [what we can get].
