Construction Causing Traffic Restrictions This Weekend

The Indiana Department of Transportation says construction projects will create some traffic restrictions this weekend.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, crews will close two right lanes of southbound I-65 between Thompson Road and Edgewood Avenue for concrete paving.  The lanes are expected to reopen by 7 a.m. Saturday.  INDOT says overnight paving operations in this area are expected to continue Monday through Friday nights for approximately two weeks.  Those restrictions are expected to end by 6 a.m. each day.

Contractors are also planning to pour half of the new concrete bridge deck on East Street over I-70 on Saturday.  INDOT says this will create various restrictions on I-70 in both directions between Meridian Street and the I-65/I-70 South Split.

Lane restrictions will begin on the westbound lanes at 6 a.m. Saturday.  Those restrictions will shift to the eastbound lanes as work progresses from north to south on the East Street bridge overhead.  Restrictions are expected to end around 3 p.m. Saturday.

For safety reasons, East Street will be closed between Prospect Street and the ramp from I-65/I-70 during this concrete pour.  Motorists heading northbound can take Morris Street to Shelby Street to Virginia Avenue to East Street.  Those heading southbound can take Virginia Avenue to Prospect Street to East Street.

As previously reported, the ramp from westbound I-70 to northbound I-465 on the city's east side will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for planned pavement repairs.
