Who Fills My D*mn Pothole?

Confused on who to call about a pesky pothole? Read on!

That tree swine in Pennsylvania says we have six more weeks of winter. Does that mean six six more weeks of pothole hell? Another potholocolypse? If we’re lucky, no, but we haven’t had a real ballbuster of a February in years. YEARS I SAY. I’ve already bought my bread and milk. I even got a new bathrobe with deep pockets, and a blow dryer in case the power goes out.

Cleanup during the current pothole season has been laborious, and there’s still a considerable amount of confusion amongst good samaritans on who to contact in filling one or many potholes.

Are you part of the crowd? Try this flow chart. Contact information for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Department of Public Works (DPW), and Indiana counties is way down below.

Have fun:

WHO YOU GONNA CALL?

INDOT (INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION)

Remember the rules for INDOT? As a refresher:

  • Any interstate, inside I-465 or outside of I-465.
  • Any U.S. highway or state road OUTSIDE of I-465

Contact INDOT at this link

DPW (DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS)

Indy residents wanting to fill a pothole or two will eventually need to contact DPW. Rules?

  • INSIDE I-465
  • Any U.S. highway (Washington St/U.S. 40), state road (Kentucky Ave/S.R. 37), or street, alley, etc.

Report your pothole and check on the progress at this link, or call the Mayor's Action Center at (317) 327-4622

COUNTY ROADS

Have a pothole on a county road? Call the county! Here's a link to the phone numbers for each county:

Thank you for the conversation and the very helpful tips you send to @WIBCTraffic. No tip is to small, unless it's a rib tip. Screw that, I'm hangry.

Much love.

Matt Bair was thoroughly embarrassed after digging around in a large pothole and finding no cannabis. He's the new voice of Indianapolis traffic, and can be followed on Twitter @WIBCTraffic. Tips? Call direct at (317) 684-8134 or the 93 WIBC Newsroom at (317) 637-6397.
