Indianapolis-based ExactTarget Inc. has appointed David Yuan of Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV) to its board of directors. TCV is one of the nation's largest technology-focused venture capital firms with a portfolio of privately held and public companies including Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX), eHarmony, Expedia Inc. (Nasdaq: EXPE) and Fandango. The firm recently invested in ExactTarget.
Businessweek has named Fishers the best place to raise kids in Indiana. The publication picked one top community in each state followed by two runners-up. Indiana's runners-up were Mishawaka and Carmel. Businessweek based its rankings on school test scores, air quality, affordability, job growth and safety.
Terre Haute-based Crossroads Communications Inc. has named a new general manager. Robin Wood is now in charge of the group's four radio properties after spending 19 years with church organizations in Phoenix. The Anderson University graduate replaces Doug Edge, who resigned from Crossroads in April.
Hoosiers who have previously exhausted their unemployment benefits and remain unemployed may file for the new federal unemployment extension beginning Monday. People currently collecting unemployment will be directed to this new extension automatically. The Department of Workforce Development estimates that approximately 50,000 Hoosiers may qualify for this extension between now and the end of the year.
The South Bend Common Council will meet Monday to hear plans for enhancing Coveleski Regional Stadium downtown. The project calls for a new entrance, a park-like surrounding and blocks of mixed-use economic development. Phase 1 plans, which include renovating existing concourse suites, press box and clubhouses, could start before the 2010 baseball season.
CSX Transportation Inc. says its two new ultra low-emission locomotives will be used at its Avon Yard west of Indianapolis. The company says it is the first railroad in Indiana to utilize the GenSet locomotives, which are designed to drastically reduce emissions and use less fuel. They are part of the company's effort to upgrade its locomotive fleet with technology that reduces the release of pollutants.
The Indianapolis International Airport took home the coveted Monumental Award as the most significant project of the year in Marion County as determined by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Inc. The organization presented a total of 37 awards last night that represent the most visual and physical enhancements. The airport was chosen because of its substantial civic impact.
Community Health Network's Community Breast Care has been granted a three-year accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).The breast care provider has locations in Indianapolis and Greenwood. Accreditation by NAPBC is administered by the American College of Surgeons.
Purdue University says it is facing a shortfall of $70 million over the next three years if state appropriations and general education fees do not increase. As part of a proactive approach to deal with that projection, President France Córdova has announced the institution wants to cut $30 million before the state's next two year budget cycle begins. Purdue University Treasurer Al Diaz says Purdue has already made across-the-board reductions, cut positions, curtailed hiring and withheld pay increases. But those are short-term solutions.
Ivy Tech Community College broke ground on its new Warsaw campus today. Since 1978, the school has leased space in Kosciusko County. Ivy Tech-Warsaw moved to its current home at the United Office Complex/Sprint building in 2002. The lease on that space expires in 2011 and the new $10 million facility is expected to be completed by next fall semester.
