INDIANAPOLIS — Heartland Film’s Indy Shorts International Film Festival is back for the fifth time.

The festival, which started Tuesday and runs through Sunday, showcases a vast array of short films from diverse filmmakers.  A few of the entries even focus on Hoosier stories.

Indy Shorts is an “Academy Award-Qualifying” festival.  According to the Heartland Film website, this means that each film “will qualify for consideration in the Short Films category of the Annual Academy Awards without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.”

In other words, each winner will have a chance to be nominated at the Academy Awards.

If you are interested in watching any of the short films, you can purchase tickets online at heartlandfilm.org.  Many of the entries can be watched virtually.  In-person screenings are being shown at Living Room Theaters, Newfields and the Indianapolis Arts Center.
