Time after time, opponent after opponent of our new president has discovered—usually to their mystifying surprise as far as I am concerned—that the guy is not only opposed to them and their particular stance on a given issue, he is so rigid, so doctrinaire and so militant that all semblance of reason is a ridiculous fraud. In point of fact, the man’s mission, well and oft-stated by him as candidate over the past two years, has been to radicalize and to socialize this Republic just as fast and just as completely as he can. To give the devil his due, he is smart enough to understand that his is, for all intents, a two year presidency. It is logically and historically clear that his recipe for the demise of private enterprise and our tradition of strength and exceptionalism are such anathema to what Americans really believe in that one they sleep off the narcotic Kool-Aid, they will be not be happy.
No less wise men than Michael Ledeen and Victor Davis Hanson have predicted that the Shining One’s support will indeed collapse once the folks finally recognize what he is really doing. We can only hope...But until then, assuming it can happen at the polls next year, our big fear has to be that he will succeed in dismantling the Republic both politically and economically before we can strip him of his Congress full of sycophants and fellow radicals.
Military spending is a prime example. First, such expenditures are one of the few places where a government is supposed to use our money. And to nobody’s surprise, that is exactly where the Obama administration has decided to save some money. We lose the F-22 Raptor fighter and related hugely important aircraft production as well as an immediate cut in other spending. Of course this will result in immediate job loss and further complication of the already-tense unemployment situation around the country. But that’s ok, because they are punishing the hated military, just like Slick Willie did. Interesting consistency with these democrats, huh? Hate a strong defense and devastate the military establishment every time they get the chance.
Be clear on this; all that talk about reaching out to all sectors was pure political blarney. He didn’t mean it when he said it, and now that he’s in the big boy chair, all he can see is that great big “I WON” banner hanging over his desk. Power corrupts...you know the rest. We are witnessing a polarization like none since Vietnam, and the results will pit him against most of society before he finally gets run out of office in 4 years. But for now, prepare to watch the new kid in town work day and night to disassemble the Republic before he loses his huge majority in January of 2011.
