A Bitter Cup Of 42 MPG Kool-Aid
by Greg Garrison

He stood on stage (just about any stage will do) last weekend at Notre Dame, his statue-like poses variously presenting messiah, revival preacher and sage sooth-sayer, and all the media could do was take his picture. Over and over again, pose after ridiculous pose, the guy’s stunning arrogance has soiled web pages and headlines the world over; he delivered his usual cup of blather, observations and advice that demonstrate still and always that he is in deed the smartest man he knows. And all this from a guy who is far and away the most inexperienced, untrained, and ill-prepared pol ever to darken the door of 1600. But give him his due—it’s working.

So what, you are asking by now, does any of that have to do with the title to this piece? Good question and thank you for playing. See, it’s that Moses-parting-the-waters mentality that has blessed our kid-president with the temerity and the brass to decide by monarchical fiat that he can simply decree policy and declare results. And given that the narcotized zombies in the media continue to repeat his declarations as if from Holy Writ, his attack on republican governance and that equally radical determination to destroy the economy in the fraudulent name of “climate control” appear to be on track; that is on a collision course with the advent of true socialist—or will it be fascist?—state for America.

As if by some divine investiture, President Obama simply issues his imperatives on carbon emissions and all is accomplished. Now he simply waves his scepter and poof! Our cars suddenly attain 42 miles per gallon performance. Is it magic? Or is it just the most arrogant and clueless executive on earth? In a word, yes. It is magic just like the delusional psych ward patient sees unicorns in nurses’ uniforms and children find coins under their pillows after losing a tooth. And boy is it clueless. Or is it? The issue is never the issue with the Left anyway, and in this case the 42 mpg thing is just a ruse to immobilize and subjugate a free people. Of course we fight hard to keep the Second Amendment in place, but maybe an even more fundamental indicator of real liberty is our unfettered right of free mobility. If we can be confined we can be controlled. If we cannot move about without impediment to that movement by the goons of Obamaland, soon we will discover the powerful and inexorable connection between mobility and peaceful assembly. Can’t meet if you can’t move about, and you can’t move about if you can’t afford to drive your car or worse, can no longer operate it because of its offending gas mileage. Sound silly. Think again.

I have said ever since the guy showed up on the campaign scene that he was deadly dangerous to the Republic. Rush was right—as usual—when he said the man was out to destroy the country. You bet he is, and all the boot-licking sycophants in the main stream media are carrying his water—and his message—right over the cliff for him. If he can simply don his crown and declare doctrine deadly to the economy, he can do so as well with regard to freedom and its emoluments. Nationalized banks? Check. Nationalized industry? Done. Socialized medicine? On its way, and cap-and-tax edicts that break us right in our homes by the end of this summer. He may be ill-prepared to lead, but that’s not what he’s there for. His mission is destruction in favor of his own—and that of Saul Alinsky, William Ayers and Karl Marx—vision of collectivism. Do not confuse his incompetency to lead a free people with his clear acumen in tearing the place down. We didn’t elect him for that purpose, but that is precisely why he ran for office.
