Indianapolis gardening guru Dick Crum, or "Dr. Dirt", shares his knowledge and wit on WIBC every Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
Dick was the longtime horticultural educator with the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service in Indianapolis who retired in 1997. But since then, he stayed busier than ever, dispensing more than 40 years of gardening knowledge to Indianapolis residents.
Dick, who grew up on a farm in Parke County, originally studied entomology (bug science) at Purdue and wanted to work in an orchard. But, when no job was available after he graduated, he took a job with the Extension office as a horticulturist and that set him on the path to become the city's most famous and most loved source for gardening information.
Pat Sullivan is the man to ask when you need to clean your deck, repair your plumbing, or install a new floor. He is the guru of home improvement and the co-host (along with Dick Crum) of the Home and Garden show, Saturdays from 9-1. Pat began his radio career at WIBC in 1995 and he says it was the first job for which he'd ever filled out an application!

Pat's "other job" is as the President of Sullivan's Hardware, a chain of family owned stores in Indianapolis. Pat's father opened the first store at 71st and Keystone in 1954, so Pat literally grew up in the hardware business. Pat took over the reins of the business when his father retired in 1989.
His expertise in all things hardware comes from a lifetime of learning. Pat not only learned about the business of selling hardware, he also learned the best ways to use the tools and products he sells as well as how to tackle nearly any home improvement project.
Denny Smith is a third-generation master plumber who grew up in the shadows of the Indianapolis 500 in Speedway, Indiana. Although he obtained a small scholarship to study pre-med at Indiana University, his father convinced him to also take business courses. Denny continued his college education in night school and graduated 17 years later with a degree in Business Administration.
Denny eventually went on to manage plumbing operations in several states with annual sales in excess of $120 million.
After Denny’s eventual retirement in 2002 from plumbing, he recognized that the opportunity to open The Mutual Fund Store in Indianapolis. With his prior experience in business, finance, and investing, Denny sat for and passed the required certification tests, and then registered with the National Association of Securities Dealers as well as the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Denny has been a part of WIBC since 2003. His shows include Investing Sense, The Denny Smith Show, The Mutual Fund Show, and the beloved Home & Garden Show with Pat Sullivan and Dick Crum.
