Alessando Zampedri has gone from the fast-paced world of IndyCar racing, to the high-pressure world of hotel ownership.

Fans may best know the popular Zampedri for the terrible crash he was involved in on the last lap of the 1996 “500”.

Zampedri suffered extreme leg injuries in the accident, but battled back to make the field again in 1997.

Despite the crash, Zampedri still finished 4th in 1996, after leading 20 laps.

He finished 35th the following year, after a last-minute rules change allowed for more than 33 cars to qualify for the race.

Zampedri now co-owns a hotel in Manhattan.
