A 33 year old New Whiteland man has drowned at Monroe Reservoir.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the body of David Richards was located at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Friday.

Richards was swimming with his brother, Shane, and their children midway between Paynetown State Recreation Area and Fairfax State Recreation Area.

Richards jumped into the water to swim out with his son but began having cramps and called out for help.

His brother tried to help but couldn't get Richards back to the boat. Shane tried to drive the boat to Ricahrds' location but he was under water before he could get the boat to him.

Shane and all of the children were wearing life jackets, but Richards was not.
