Voters in central Indiana townships were split on tax increases to fund day-to-day operations.
Listen:
Franklin Township voters overwhelmingly rejected their two ballot questions, despite pleas from school officials that budgets would be cut if the extra money was not approved. Franklin Township Community School Superintendent Walter Bourke has said the corporation will need to make cuts of more than $3 million to balance their General Fund.
On the other side, Beech Grove voters decided their schools needed the extra money.
Beech Grove Superintendent Paul Kaiser had stated if the referendum had not passed, drastic cuts would be enacted.
In Perry Township, the vote was close, but in the end a bond issue was voted down.
