By Reed Parker

There will be a new Wishard Hospital.

Marion County voters on Tuesday approved a proposal to build a new faculty on the IUPUI campus.

Listen:

The project needed voter approval since it is being funded through property tax dollars, but Wishard officials maintain no tax increases will be needed.

Wishard Chief Executive Officer Dr. Lisa Harris says she is humbled by the vote of confidence from voters. She says Wishard has pledged $150 million it has saved toward a down payment.

The referendum allows the hospital to tap into more than $600 million from federal stimulus bond.

Harris say the next step is demolition, then site preparation, followed by construction.
