The Internal Revenue Service reports a record 2.2 million federal income tax returns in Indiana have been filed electronically this year, up six percent from 2008.

IRS spokeswoman Jodie Reynolds says 74 percent of tax filers in the state have utilized the e-file system, instead of paper.

More than 761,000 Indiana taxpayers filed from home computers in 2009. Throughout the country, 95 million returns were e-filed this year.
