Reese Defense Questions Competance of Crime Lab Worker
By Stan Lehr
11/5/2009
The defense is questioning the competence of the forensic specialist who gathered evidence after the shooting of Metro Police Officer Jason Fishburn.
Listen:
Lisa Liebig of the Marion County Crime Lab reported the safety on Officer Fishburn's gun was "off" when she examined it, when in fact his gun didn't have a safety. She says that was not an error, but she should have added a note to explain.
Liebig graduated from the Crime Lab's six-month training program one month before Officer Fishburn was shot. Her supervisor, Mike Kouns, testified that the lab puts nobody on the street until they're ready.
The defense is also questioning evidence that was NOT found at the scene.
The crime lab found no bullet holes in the walls of the two houses between which Officer Fishburn was shot. A police officer's lost badge was found--months later--by an investigator working for the defense.
