An Indianapolis man was seriously injured after a police chase that ended at Indianapolis International Airport.

It started in Plainfield, at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Simmons Street, when an officer stopped a vehicle for a seatbelt violation.

The officer thought there was some suspicious activity in the vehicle and asked the passengers to get out, which they did.

At that point, the driver sped away and there was a chase that continued onto I-70 at speeds up to 100 mph when the driver, for an unknown reason, exited onto airport property.

The driver crashed the vehicle on the arrival ramp and jumped over the retaining wall, which is about a 90- foot drop.

The driver is identified as Richard Stedman, 44, of Indianapolis.

Investigators say he was taken to Wishard Hospital with serious injuries.
