Hoosier Congressman in Middle of Health Care Debate
By Eric Berman
11/7/2009

Two southern Indiana congressmen are in the thick of the health care debate as it steams toward a vote in the House late tonight or early tomorrow.

House leaders cut a deal overnight to exclude abortion from any government-run insurance option.

Eighth District Democrat Brad Ellsowrth had offered an amendment to require any money for abortion be walled off from tax dollars, but opponents said that proposal didn't go far enough.

Ninth District Congressman Baron Hill is among 40 Democrats the White House is trying to persuade to support the bill. Hill says there's a lot to he likes about the bill but says he hasn't committed yet to voting for it.
