In its first year hosting the Colts' training camp since 1998, Anderson is experimenting with a tailgate party.
Listen:
Hoosier Park racetrack and casino is setting up a city-endorsed tailgate party in a section of its parking lot, serving barbecue, stadium food and beer.
The casino will run a shuttle bus to take fans to the training camp at Anderson University, four miles away.
Casino officials say tailgaters can bring their own food, but because the casino needed a special state permit to serve beer away from the racing and gaming buildings, fans won't be allowed to bring their own alcohol.
Hoosier Park will charge $10, the same price as parking at the university.
Anderson University is alcohol-free, and Mayor Kris Ockomon says the city wanted to make sure fans who wanted a traditional tailgate experience could have one.
Ockomon expects about 40-thousand fans to come to Colts camp, but Hoosier Park general manager Jim Brown says he has no idea how many of them will take advantage of the tailgate party.
"Let's figure out what works and what fans enjoy this year," Brown says. "This year's the lab experiment."
