IMPD: Officer in Crash Tests Positive for Alcohol


The IMPD Officer involved in a fatal crash on Friday tested positive for alcohol.


Officer David Bisard, 36, was on an emergency run with his lights and siren activated when he struck a group of motorcyclists at East 56th and Brendon Way.
Eric Wells, 30, was killed and Mary Mills, 47, and Kurt Weekly, 44, were critically injured. Mills is now in serious condition, Weekly remains critical.
Officer Bisard submitted to the alcohol test, which is standard procedure for an officer involved in an accident.  IMPD confirmed that Bisard tested positive for acohol.
IMPD is working with the Prosecutor's Office on possible charges in the case. Bisard has been reassigned to administrative duty while the investigation is ongoing.
Bisard has been involved in five other on-duty crashes within the past 9 years. All were considered minor and no one was injured.
