Indy Super Bowl Committee Heads to Dallas

An NFL player lockout could cancel our kickoff, but the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee shrugs off that threat.

A delegation is making an "official observation trip" to Dallas, where the Green Bay Packers will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV next Sunday.  The members are flying to Dallas/Fort Worth Monday.

"We've got some pieces that we need to put into our big giant jigsaw puzzle," says Committee President Allison Melangton.

The puzzle in Texas is bigger, with Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington and the 100,000-seat Cowboys Stadium involved.

"We'll be taking that footprint and laying it over Indianapolis," says Melangton.  "And we have a much more condensed area, so while the general components will be the same the application will be different."

After college basketball's Final Four last year, she's confident that Indianapolis can handle it.

"With Butler making it into the NCAA championship, I think we had a lot more people downtown than we would have if had it been two out of state teams," she said.  "And our downtown handled that very well."

With a little more than year to go before Super Bowl XLVI at Lucas Oil Stadium, Melangton says there's no time for worry about a possible lockout.

"We need every single day to get ready," she said.  "We are not gonna change course."
