Some House Democrats Expected During Union Rally

Indiana House Minority Leader Pat Bauer (D-South Bend) says some members of his caucus may return to the Statehouse Thursday to attend a major union rally.

The House won't be in session Thursday or Friday because House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) says the Big Ten basketball tournament is forcing some lawmakers out of their hotel rooms. But Bauer claims Republicans just don't want to be there while thousands of union members protest GOP-backed legislation.

He accuses Republicans of "running away from their constituents." Bosma says the rally had nothing to do with his decision.

Although it's not clear which Democratic lawmakers plan to attend the rally, beginning Thursday morning at 11 a.m., Bauer tells reporters he will likely remain in Illinois.
