Classes were canceled today at Jasper High School following the early Monday collapse of the gymnasium roof.

Officials with Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools discovered the problem after an alarm sounded at the school.

The gym and part of the cafeteria sustained a lot of water damage. The building is being assessed for any other structural damage.

School Superintendent Dr. Jerrill Vandeventer the entire school district was closed for the day, for logistical reasons.

No one was injured.  Vandeventer says he's glad the collapse occurred when the building was unoccupied.
