Cameras to Be Allowed in Courtroom in White Case

The Indiana Recount Commission dealt a double blow to Charlie White Tuesday.

Commission members denied White's request for immunity from the use of his testimony at his upcoming hearing.  They also denied his request that television cameras be banned from the prodeedings.

The hearing will determine whether the Republican is eligible to serve as Secretary of State.  Democrats say White should be removed from office because he wasn't legally registered to vote at the time he announced his candidacy for the office.

White's attorney Jim Bopp says he's now petitioning prosecutors in the case to consider granting White immunity in exchange for testimony.

Meantime, the commission will allow videotaping and live online streaming of the hearing.

Bopp argued that White is concerned about sensitive and personal information getting out during the proceedings.  The commission responded by saying it has the authority to suspend camera and live online streaming as it sees fit.

The hearing is set for next Tuesday.
