Following the disaster at the State Fair last Saturday, questions are coming in regarding possible legislation to prevent incidents like this in the future.
State Senator Tom Wyss, Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security committee tells 93 WIBC WIBC's Ed Wenck on Indy's Afternoon News he's not sure if legislation needs to be created but something does need to be done to prevent future problems. Senator Wyss says everyone should wait and see what kind of information comes from the various investigations.
"If we find out that this is going to have to be a practice in the future, to exclude the fact that, you know, people can be injured or killed, we definitely want to make sure that we're going everything we can to protect the public," Senator Wyss says.
Senator Jim Merritt, member of the Senate Public Safety Committee and the State Fair Advisory Board takes a similar position. He says there are too many questions to be answered before any legislation is contemplated.
However, Senator Merritt says he assumes that some sort of legislation will mostly likely be created.
