The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 wants a federal judge to dismiss the new Right to Work law.
Spokesman Ed Maher says they filed a lawsuit in US District Court in Hammond Wednesday. Maher says the suit names Governor Mitch Daniels, Attorney General Greg Zoeller and Labor Commissioner Lori Torres. Maher says several parts of the new law are unconstitutional and conflict with decades of federal labor law. Maher says Right to Work forces unions to provide service for no compensation.
He says that's one of several counts named in the actual suit. Maher says the suit names the Governor, Attorney General and Labor Commissioner because they administer laws and set policy in Indiana. Maher says they expect to testify soon in court, but isn't sure about court dates since the suit has just been filed.
