Deputy & Wife Charged With Child Neglect
A Marion County Sheriff's Deputy and his wife have been charged with felony child neglect.
Authorities say they arrested 27-year-old Matthew Prestel and 26 year old wife Kristine Prestel Monday afternoon. Capt. Michael Hubbs says Matthew surrendered to the sheriff's department and they later arrested Kristine. Both are charged with up to four counts.
Their children, a nearly four-year-old girl and a one-year-old are in Child Protective Services. This after authorities report the girl came to school reeking of perfume, had feces caked on her and also had blisters and diaper rash. Authorities also say the couple's home was filthy and in disarray, with feces on the floor and walls and spoiled food left out in the kitchen. They also found a sheriff's deputy gun out where children could reach it.
Hubbs says the couple faces up to a year behind bars if convicted. The Marion County Prosecutor's office has already filed charges. Matthew Prestel has a hearing in Marion County Superior Court 17 set for March 29th at 1pm.
