Authorities are investigating scammers in southern Indiana attempting to get money from tornado victims.
Ann Gregson with the Red Cross says last weekend, tornado victims in Marysville and Henryville were approached by people claiming to work for the Red Cross. These people said they would remove debris from the homeowners' properties for a $25 fee. Gregson says actual Red Cross workers would never do that.
"Red Cross never is involved in cleanup nor do we ask for money for any of our services nor do we do fundraising like that during a disaster; going door-to-door to the affected people," Gregson says.
Gregson says this type of behavior is unfortunate but not unusual in situations like what happened in southern Indiana. She says anyone who notices anything suspicious like this should call 2-1-1 or contact the local authorities to report it.
