Country music duo Sugarland says they have not refused to give depositions in a lawsuit over last summer's stage rigging collapse at the Indiana State Fair.
Listen:
In a statement released Wednesday, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush say they "are simply refusing to be bullied into doing so on short notice without sufficient time to prepare." Mid-America Sound, a defendant alongside Sugarland and others over the collapse, is asking Marion Superior Court Judge Theodore Sosin to force Sugarland to provide depositions next week.
"As the lawyers for Mid-America well know, even though Sugarland is currently getting ready for a grueling five-month tour that begins next month, Jennifer and Kristian have volunteered to make themselves available for depositions in May," the statement says.
Judge Sosin has scheduled a hearing on Mid-America's request for Friday morning at 10:00. Sugarland says Mid-America's request "appears to be motivated more by a desire for publicity than a sincere interest in seeing justice done."
