IU 5K Mini Will Raise Awareness For Lauren Spierer

The IU Mini Marathon is expected to raise awareness for missing sophomore Lauren Spierer.

The twitter feed called "newsonlauren" is encouraging participants of the annual 5K Run/Walk to wear light blue shirts with the words "Where is She?" printed on it.

The organizer said the event is not a family "sponsored event." But said it is an opportunity to spread awareness and show Bloomington that the movement to find the 20-year-old fashion student is still active.

Spierer disappeared June 3, 2011 after partying with her friends.

The IU Mini steps off Saturday, March 31 and winds its way through campus and up and down the hills of Bloomington.

The marathon helps fund scholarships for students who survived cancer.
