Summer Servings is up and running for kids who may need some help finding a healthy, hot meal now that school is out.
The program involves area restaurants and other businesses that help children to find a place where they can eat, since they can't rely on a school program to provide lunch or breakfast. Congressman Andre Carson says 85-percent of kids in Indianapolis Schools are on free and reduced lunch programs, which, to him, highlight the need to fight hunger. "It is something that is more than notable, it speaks to a greater issue that is pervasive in our society, and that is hunger."
Carson says when you have a nurished body, you have a nurished mind, and that makes kids a lot easier to educate, so they can grow up to be successful. For a list of Summer Servings locations, please visit www.summerservings.org
