The Indiana Horse Racing Commission has closed the racing track at Indiana Downs.

Listen:

The directive from IHRC Executive Director Joe Gorajec says the track was closed for Friday and Saturday after the Indiana Horsemen's Benevolet and Protective Association claimed that the track was dangerous for horses and their riders. The Commission says the closure is "being done in the exercise of an abundance of caution."

An investigation will be conducted to determine the safety of the track. Gorajec says a decision to continue racing at the track will likely be made on Sunday.

Gorajec says, "Indiana Downs has had an admirable track safety record -- well within industry norms."
