Indianapolis will continue to go with the district map that was put in place.
Listen:
Mayor Greg Ballard vetoed a request that would allow a consultant to help the city develop another proposal. Marc Lotter is with the city and says there is no reason to draw up another district map. "Those districts are fair, they're balanced, and they have not been challenged in court, and there's no reason to spend another $180,000 to do it again."
But City/County Council President, Maggie Lewis, says she doesn't think the map holds up because it wasn't approved in the same calendar year as the census data it was based on. Lotter says he's not sure if there will be a lawsuit over the ordinance to redraw the district maps or not.
