An Indianapolis family isn't just celebrating the nation's birthday, but family birthdays -- a lot of them.
Listen:
Julie Green says she always liked the fact she had the same birthday as her dad, Herman Habegger of Indianapolis. The fact that birthday was the Fourth of July was even more fun. But when she was pregnant with her ninth child, she wondered if there could be too much of a good thing.
"Around his due date, which I think was around June 27 or something, my sister started saying, 'Wouldn't it be cool if Jake was born on the Fourth of July, because then we'd have three generations?'" Green recalls. "And I was just like, 'Oh, no, I can't wait another week.'"
By the time Jake Green did check in on the Fourth of July, Green says she was rooting for it.
Jake Green is 13 now. Indy's fireworks ban this year disrupted the family's tradition of setting off its own to celebrate, but all three generations still get together for a triple birthday dinner.
