Indiana State Police have confirmed that a crash on northbound I-65 near the north split left two people dead Friday afternoon.
Investigators believe the driver of a box truck failed to negotiate a curve on the interstate when the truck went off the roadway and overturned. The driver, 43-year-old Joey Stasik, and his 30-year-old passenger Jason Bauer, both from Illinois, were pronounced dead at the scene. One firefighter was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital with heat-related issues.
Witnesses tell police that speed may have played a factor in the crash. All lanes of northbound I-65 are closed while the investigation into the crash continues.
