With news that the second pick in the NFL Draft has signed with the Washington Redskins, the owner of the Colts says the man drafted ahead of Robert Griffin, the Third is close to doing the same with Indy.
Listen:
Jim Irsay says the Colts and Andrew Luck are close to a deal, something he has been saying for several weeks now. "Anyone who does negotiations knows that you can get close and be very close for a very long period of time. Close doesn't always mean that it's going to get done the next day. He'll be in camp. There's no question that he'll be signed in time," said Irsay.
Training camps for NFL teams can open next Monday, and Irsay has previously denied reports that talks with Luck were held up over the number of outside endorsements he would be allowed to have. "We've been close. I think we'll be able to accomplish the final couple of details, and it's going to get done, no doubt about it."
Griffin, who beat out Luck for the Heisman Trophy, signed a deal that guarantees him more than $21 million over the next four years.
