A crash on I-69 in Grant County left one person dead Friday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say a semi tractor-trailer driven by 48-year-old James Ilari of Lousville, Kentucy was traveling southbound on I-69 near the 58 mile marker. Ilari slowed down because of heavy traffic approaching a work zone. The semi was being followed by a Buick LeSabre which was rear-ended by a box truck driven by 40-year-old Brad Anderson of Danville, Indiana. The box truck pushed the Buick into the rear of the semi.

The crash caused a fire which engulfed the Buick and the cab of the box truck. The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. Anderson was taken to Marion General Hospital with burns to his arms and legs and was later airlifted to Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis.

The crash remains under investigation. At this time, investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.
