Metro Police are investigating a shooting that injured a nine-year-old boy Friday night.
IMPD Officer Kendale Adams says officers were called to Mill Crossing Drive and Mountain Laurel Place on the city's near east side around 8:30 on a report of a person shot. Officers found the boy, Kavon Jones, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. Jones was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in good condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say Jones was playing football with a group of 25-30 children when an older-model gray vehicle pulled up and a heavy set black male got out and fired several shots. The vehicle was last seen near the intersection of 38th Street and Sherman Drive.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
